The year 2020-21 has been declared as Mujib Year marking the birth centenary of country's founding President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee celebration of the independence of Bangladesh. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on March 17,1920.
He spearheaded the Bengali's liberation struggle and Bangladesh emerged as an independent country from Pakistan on the world map in 1971. A year after his 100 birth anniversary, Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence on March 26, 2021. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the announcement at the opening session of a joint meeting of the ruling Awami League's Central Working Committee and Advisory Council at party adquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka. "It's my wish that we celebrate the year from 2020 to 2021 as Mujib Barsha through yearlong programmes. She said at the meeting, The Prime Minister also said, "The Father of the Nation repaid his debt with his life. We must now repay him. Programmes on such occasions as Bangabandhu's Homecoming day, the Awami Lcague's founding anniversary, National Mourning Day and Jail Killing Day will be organised in co-ordation with the Mujib Year. The University of Dhaka has decided to award Bangabandhu with the Doctor of Laws' posthumously in 2020. The Government of Bangladesh is trying hard to spread the ideology of the father of the nation to every citizen.
